ALTERNATIVE PRODUCTION Clara
22.03.2020
My project is one of the less problematic ones, since my CPE is behind me and I don't rely on meeting people in real life to produce my work in its final stages as much. I do, however, have some worries that I would like to share, and a few ideas on how to solve the problems that have occurred.
External Partners
institutions are closed
rely on external coaching in the productional stage (that was about come)
in-person meetings are no longer possible
Production has changed as well - I will focus on making the games work digitally, in case a virtual CPEM is necessary, instead of producing polished physical copies.
Adapting
a lot of activity on social media
very active discord server
translating the games: digital version of Interactive Story as main product (focus of last week)
CPE
My CPE has already happened, so that's great. That and the people I'm in contact with via the internet means that an external audience has already seen my work andnew opportunities and connections have already arisen/been made.
CPEM
The biggest worry now is the CPEM which can be witnessed by at least two people that will grade me. In my opinion, it is possible to do this virtually, with some twists.
A website could
- explain the concepts
- display pictures and other documentation of the physical games
- include (links to) the games that can be played online
- be a networking opportunity
I might be able to arrange a moment in time in which some people (maybe scheduled in groups? Or at least the grading coaches) can interact with me and possible play the games live with me and commentary online. I have to look further into opportunities like this and their realistic feasability within the given timeframe and financial means, as well as my not so broad knowledge about these kinds of things.
I am afraid that a CPEM where people actually come together to play the games might be tough to execute. At the moment, meetings with more than two people areforbidden here in Germany, and I don't really see the restrictions being lifted much until May.
What worries me most is losing the moment of people playing the games with each other, which is crucial in The Instrument and The Turn.
The Games - do they work digitally?
all of the concepts will need extra work for them to be translated into a digital version, but I think it is doable for most of them.
- The Hermann Story WORKS
- The Interactive Story WORKS
- The Instrument ((WORKS))
- The Turn ???
- The Conversation (WORKS)
Other solutions might include 'print at home' games, in which I put the cards and theinstructions online and people can print them themselves, so that at least they can be tried within the family or at a later stage when people can meet again and this project would otherwise have been forgotten.
Regarding a location, if a real CPEM could be executed, I am very flexible, and something could be arranged pretty last-minute fairly easily, I am convinced. Even a studio in the ABK could quickly be set up to accommodate my exhibition.
DocEval Event
This event prompts even more problems regarding government restrictions than the CPEM, simply because of the sheer amount of people that would be in attendance. Most of my documentation is digital or can be digitalized, the rest could be documented (making for a bit of a documentception, but it should work for the purpose), in case of it being necessary. Of course, the happening of the event is a whole-of-iArts business and decisions about the intricacies need to be made with the group collectively. Personally, I think extending our already planned website for this purpose might be a way to execute an online event.
Budget
At this point in time, I can still re-route the budget initially planned for the production of the physical copies to the making and hosting of a website. My main worry, again, is with arranging different ways to work together with my external coaches. I will give updates on this once I have any – their situation is uncertain as well, of course.
